In the winter, your chest, like many other parts of your body, tends to get lost in bulky, warm clothing. Now that summer's here and you’ve brought your skimpier clothes out of hibernation, you feel like something’s missing up top, namely fuller breasts that round out your body shape.
If you feel like larger breasts would boost your confidence, you’ve come to the right place. Dr. Trent Fogleman and our team have been performing breast augmentation procedures at Cosmetic Surgery Center for decades.
And we’re not alone — breast augmentation routinely ranks in the top 5 surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States, with nearly 200,000 procedures in 2020 alone.
Let’s take a look at some of your options for breast augmentation.
Choosing a breast implant
Once you decide to augment your breasts, you have one more decision to make — which type of implant, and there are several to choose from, including saline, silicone, and gummy bear.
These are empty pouches that we insert into your breasts and then fill with sterilized saline water. The benefits of saline is that the incisions are smaller and, if the implant ruptures, the water is absorbed by your body without incident. That said, all of the water will drain out, leaving you with a lopsided chest.
If you want a firmer feel to your saline implants, we can insert ones that offer an inner structure.
These breast implants are filled with a silicone gel, which allows for a more natural feel. We do need to make larger incisions to insert silicone implants, but if the implant leaks, it doesn’t collapse, leaving the shape of your breasts largely intact.
We check silicone implants every few years to ensure that they’re not leaking and that everything is in place.
Gummy bear implants
These breast implants take silicone implants a step further and offer more structure thanks to a denser, form-stable gel. As well, the shape of these implants mimics your breasts better as they taper toward the top.
Outside of these three, you can also choose different implants based on size, shape, and texture. Of course, we sit down with you to review each of your options thoroughly.
Undergoing breast augmentation
Once we choose which implant you want, we schedule your surgery. Dr. Fogleman performs your breast augmentation on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home on the same day. He does use general anesthesia, so you should arrange for someone to drive you.
Once you get home, you’ll need to take it easy for a few days. We also provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, and we suggest you follow those closely.
After a week or two, you can start to get back to your normal routine, but you need to avoid anything strenuous for at least a few weeks.
Your recovery wait will be worth it as the surgical site heals, leaving you with the breast size and shape you’ve been longing for.
