The Melanage® Skin Lightening Peel is a convenient way to reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone, discoloration, or irregular pigmentation.
The end result of Melanange treatment is more evenly colored and smoothly textured skin.
Am I a Candidate for Melanage?
Uneven skin color and texture may be the result of a wide variety of causes including age, injury, sun exposure, and heredity. If you are a generally healthy individual, and you want a smoother, more evenly colored skin tone, you may make a strong candidate for treatment using the Melanage Skin Lightening Peel. In particular, Melanage is designed to treat:
- Irregular skin tone
- Facial skin discolorations
Melanange is effective for all skin colors and types, though you may need to postpone treatment if you have active cold sores, open wounds, sunburn, or extreme skin sensitivity at any proposed treatment sites. In your consultation, Dr. Benien will help determine whether Melanage is the most effective form of treatment for you.
How Melanage Works
Melanage treatment is entirely noninvasive and is performed on an outpatient basis in Dr. Benien's office. On the day of your treatment, Dr. Benien or one of his trained specialists will apply the specially formulated Melanage masque to your face. This typically takes 20 minutes to complete. You will then leave Dr. Benien's office with the masque still on. After the masque has been in place for five to 10 hours, you will rinse it off at home.
The Melanage masque uses a specially formulated compound to peel away the damaged outer layer of skin and to promote the growth of new, healthy skin cells in its place. After being treated with the masque, you will need to follow the Melanage at-home skin care regimen provided by Dr. Benien. This regimen includes a series of cleansers, creams, and sunscreens. Your skin tone will continue to improve as you consistently follow the instructions provided by Dr. Benien and use the prescribed Melanage skin care products.
What Happens After Melanage?
It is fairly common to experience a slight degree of discomfort and redness after rinsing away the Melanage masque. This will feel something like mild sunburn, and should subside within the first week after receiving treatment. Within 48 hours of rinsing off the masque, your skin may begin to peel. If it does, the peeling should last somewhere between two and five days.
After all skin redness and peeling subsides, you will notice a more evenly colored skin tone. Dark spots and discolorations will fade, and your face will take on a smoother overall quality. These positive results will continue to improve as you follow the at-home regimen. As time wears on, it may become necessary to receive touch-up treatments in order to maintain the positive results of your Melanage treatment, so be sure to work with Dr. Benien to determine whether or not future treatments will be needed.
